Hi All. As you know, Paula Smith was going to coordinate letters of protest concerning the bridge ready for the next Trust/Council meeting on March 24th.
However, it was confirmed to me yesterday that the matter will be discussed at the next full council meeting this coming Monday (10th).
I wandered down to the Town Council Notice Board outside the Coop this morning and sure enough, that is the case.
The Tennis Club may then be offered the chance to buy the bridge and get it repaired. If that is how the vote goes and the Club refuses to do so, then the bridge will be removed and there will be no future discussion possible, leaving us well and truly isolated with no easy means of accessing the site for repairs and maintenance or medical emergency!
If we decide to buy, then we must put lockable gates at either end, with notices, aimed at keeping out members of the public (!), unless we can get assurances from the LTA's insurers that we would be covered for liability. I am in the process of trying to get this in writing.
I have emailed the CEO to the Town Council this morning to say that I intend being at the meeting and would like a 3-minute slot to put the Club's case before the councillors.
Members of the public are allowed to attend. I will be there, along with a member of the Club's Committee and Paula. If anyone else can turn up at the Council Chambers for a 7pm start, I would be very happy to see you there!
Any comments or questions, please let me know.
Regards
Martin Godwin (Club Chairman)
