Finals day was sunny and blustery. A couple of finals had to be postponed due to injury but we had the Junior singles, Men’s final, and the Ladies’ and Men’s doubles.
Winner of the Juniors was George Davies (14) who defeated Matt Leach (17) 6:4, 6:4 in a closely fought match with clever use of lobs and drop shots and long rallies.
Rory Weaterton ( 20) beat Harry Hale (18) in the men’s final 6:2, 6:1. During the match we were treated to a high quality match with lovely groundstrokes and line hugging shots.

The Men’s Doubles finalists were Harry Hale and Ben Rowlings, playing Simon Miller and Matt McGirr.
Harry and Ben came out on top 6:1 6:1. Both partnerships also play for Lydney B team in the Gloucestershire Summer League and the teams were more closely matched than the eventual score suggested with some sharp volleying and entertaining play.

In the Ladies’ Doubles Nikki Salter and Jan James won 6:1 6:1 in an enthralling match with Caroline Stanley and Zena Jenkins. The teams play for Lydney A’s and Lydney B’s repectively so Caroline and Zena were up against it. They put up a spirited display but were outdone by a very experienced partnership.
