Due to the Governments coronavirus lockdown, the club will be closed until further notice.
Please keep an eye on our website and social media for updates. Following the latest advice from Public Health England and the LTA, Lydney Tennis Club remains open for members and will continue to do so as long as the guidance permits.
All coaching and organised events are cancelled until further notice. The Government has specifically advised that tennis is one of the best examples of social distancing in practice, and so should be encouraged as long as the guidance permits. Please continue to follow the Government advice on social distancing and the tennis-specific advice below:
Follow the latest advice from the LTA here: www.lta.org.uk/about-us/tennis-news/news-and-opinion/general-news/2020/march/coronavirus-covid-19---latest-advice/ It’s been one week since we woke up to our our lovely tennis club being completely underwater. Everything was damaged, courts, clubhouse, changing facilities. It’s been a week of hard work by everyone involved. You’ve seen our physical efforts on the court, removing wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of mud which was left behind after the flooding. There’s also the behind the scenes work which you don’t see but it’s been non stop and crucial to helping the club recover from this
We can’t thank you enough for your support whether it’s been donations, time, money, items, messages, phone calls, volunteers, everything has helped us get through the week and we appreciate it so much. We have stepped up our fundraising target as it seems very likely that we will need to resurface all 4 courts as the flooding has damaged the surfaces. Resurfacing costs £10000 per court and we’ll be totally reliant on donations and funding. Please help by donating or sharing this link: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/lydney-tennis-club?utm_term=Bz5JxYBRe On the afternoon of Saturday 20th July we will be holding our annual touchtennis tournament starting at 1:30pm.
It is suitable for adults of all abilities and children (if they can hold a rally of a few shots) of all ages. Both members and non-members welcome so encourage your friends and family to take part. We will have a separate adult / child tournaments but they will be taking place at the same time. For those of you that have never heard of touchtennis, it is mini tennis on a small court with small rackets and soft balls. Equipment provided. It’s a very sociable afternoon with some fun tennis. There is a small charge to cover the cost of touchtennis balls and prizes. Entry deadline Sunday 14th July. https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/LydneyTennisCoaching/BookCourse/bdd5cabf-5212-4622-8136-90d33980e744 We have our mid summer Open Day taking place this Saturday, 1:30-4:30pm. Please share this with friends and family and any ‘friends of’ school Facebook groups you may be part of, or other groups / organisations. Also, if you’d like to pop by and support the Open Day that would be great too. There is likely to be a couple of courts available if you’d like to play some tennis.
